When the news about robots always seems to include Terminator references…

In the robotics industry we are always challenged with the negative perception of robots taking over the world by popular movies like Terminator. At Robotics Australia Group we believe it is important to engage in these sometimes controversial conversations to try and restore some balance.

Robotics Australia Group Chair, Dr Sue Keay, was interviewed on ABC TV about a new research discovery that appears to have created shape-shifting robots – just like Terminator’s T1000. In this clip Sue explains how the shape-shifting technology works and its potential applications. Also note that the robot had to be recast into shape, it is not a shape memory alloy. Chances of this robot becoming like the T1000 seem very unlikely but there are some great use cases for the technology if it can be proven.
